About the event
Join is on a bug hunt on this short nature walk. Find, photograph, identify and learn about local insects and bugs in Greymouth.
Registrations Essential. For ages 10+
Maximum 10 participants plus accompanying adult for those aged 10 to 12.
Schedule:
12:30PM: Meet and greet, everyone enjoy their picnic lunches they have brought along.
1PM: Bug hunting and exploring on the Kōwhai Bushwalk.
3PM: Either go home, or come to Grey District Youth Trust's space Art Soup (153 Tainui Street), to study the bugs and insects we have collected, using microscopes and lenses.
5PM: The activity ends and everyone goes home.
This activity is led by Dr. Mike Dickison, curator, zoologist and Wikipedia editor. Mike has a PhD in Zoology from Duke University and was curator of natural history at the Whanganui Regional Museum from 2013 to 2018, where he ran field trips for Forest and Bird.
